Poster for the children's room: size, hanging and prints that grow along

A poster goes up in a minute — but the difference between "nice" and "finished" lies in the size and the height.

Posters are the easiest way to finish a children's room: inexpensive, quickly swapped, and instant atmosphere. Yet in many rooms they hang just slightly wrong — too small, too high, or five where one would have been enough.

The right size for each spot

The most common mistake is a poster that is too small. A good rule of thumb: wall art fills roughly two thirds of the width of the furniture beneath it.

Hanging: height, spacing and safety

Hang the centre of the poster at roughly the eye level of a standing adult (145–150 cm), or a little lower if the room is mostly seen from a chair. For a group of posters keep 5 to 8 cm between them — more looks cluttered.

Important above a cot: do not hang anything heavy with glass directly above the bed, or use an acrylic frame and fix it firmly to the wall.

Prints that grow along

Themed posters (animals, clouds, letters) are sweet, but they have a shelf life. What stays on the wall is work with a personal layer: the name, the birth date, or a painted piece with part of the first clothes woven in.

Poster or painting?

A poster is printed in a run: affordable and easy to replace. A painted piece is unique and has texture — you can see a hand was involved. Many parents combine the two: a few simple posters and one original as the centrepiece.

Frequently asked questions

Which poster size should you choose?

A good rule of thumb is that wall art fills about two thirds of the width of the furniture beneath it. Above a cot, 50×70 cm or larger works; above a changing table usually 30×40 to 50×70 cm.

At what height do you hang a poster?

Hang the centre at roughly 145–150 cm (the eye level of a standing adult), or slightly lower if the room is mostly seen from a chair. For several posters keep 5 to 8 cm between them.

Is it safe to hang a poster above the cot?

Do not hang anything heavy with glass above a bed. Choose a light acrylic frame or an unframed print, and fix it firmly to the wall.

What is the difference between a poster and a painting?

A poster is printed in a run: affordable and easy to replace. A painted piece is unique and has texture. Many parents combine a few posters with one original as the centrepiece.
